asked on

next steps to make primary DC after promoting DC

I have just promoted my new 2012 server to a domain controller and made it a DNS server.  I want to eventually retire the old 2003 server which is currently primary.  How do I change this role to be the 2012 server.  In the event that the I shutdown the 2003 box I want all AD services and DNS services to run from the 2012 box.

Are those the 5 main roles I need to worry about?

When I try to change the operations master on the 2012 server I get this message

Yes, those are the roles.

The error message is self explanatory - it's already on the server you're trying to move it to.

When transferring Infrastruture I get the following error message.  Is this a concern?

It's only a concern if you have multiple domains.  In single domain environments, this is fine.
