Low disk space

I upgraded to marshmallow and found the feature to format a USB card as internal storage. I did this as I was running low on space. This seemed to work fine. The extra storage space was showing up. However when I try to install an app it still tells me I don't have space

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You may need to move some apps from your internal memory to the SD card.   Drilling down to the properties of the app itself (in the app manager of your device) should allow you to do that.
Kevin RobinsonPrivate VB.NET ContractorAuthor Commented:
Yes I did that but shouldn't new app be installed.  I thought that formatting the card as internal storage would mean that there was one big drive.  When I run some storage analysis apps the space is listed as one big drive with loads of space left.

Not automatically - at least not on any Android device I've used.

This is a new feature with marshmallow

From "Android 6.0 Marshmallow turns external SD card to internal storage"

"The original internal storage will not be merged with your card, but it will “disappear” and only the external-now-internal card will be detected when you go to the Storage & USB section of your device." [emphasis mine]

It also states that the SD card will become the primary storage.
Paul MacDonaldDirector, Information SystemsCommented:
Yep!  I learned something new.  It also states internal storage "disappears", which is why you can't see two different stores.

How big was the SD card you installed?  How big is the app you're trying to download but can't?
Kevin RobinsonPrivate VB.NET ContractorAuthor Commented:
I not expecting to see 2 different stores.  I expect one and I see one.  I see 12gb free space.   Even small apps won't install.  I have moved all tge apps I can to SD. I'm got try a new SD card.
