Issue with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Upgrade from version 12.1.4 to version 12.1.6
Hi all,
When running through the upgrade process for the above mentioned software, I get "stuck" at the point the upgrader prompts me to specify the port number to use for the "Process launcher port". The default option is 8447 but when I click next it errors with "The Protection Center web services port and server port can't be the same. You must choose a different port." The issue is that no matter what port number I enter, it always generates the same error therefore the upgrade won't complete!
Has anyone come across this issue previously?
Best regards
Kevin.

Hi Radhakrishnan,
Thanks for the response. I ran the upgrade.bat but it is actually the first step of this process that I get stuck at! The port in question is the newly introduced 8447 port which only started to be used with 12.1.5, but I didn't install that particular upgrade.
The only errors being generated by SymDiag relate to services not being started, which I know as they won't start until after this is completed!
Any other ideas would be greatfully received.
Best regards
Kevin.

Hi,
Is port 8447 opened? use netstat -ano command and see it's used by any other process? or is this needs to to be open?
The lastest version of SEPM is 12.1.6 MP3 but not sure why you are trying to install 12.1.5?
If i was in your position, i would do the following;
1) Take ServerPrivatekey backup from old SEPM (Drive:\\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Server Private Key Backup\recovery_timestamp. zip)
2) Uninstall SEPM completely
3) Install latest version of SEPM 12.1.6 MP3 as fresh. When the management server configuration wizard appears, Restore the Server private key and finish the installation.
The above procedure is up to you whether to follow or not. Also, if you have the contract with Symantec then i would suggest to log a call with them.

Hi,
I have disabled the firewall and can see nothing active on Port 8447.
I haven't tried to install 12.1.5, I was merely saying that this is the version that introduced the Port 8447 into the configuration, as before this version it wasn't used.
I have a support ticket open with Symantec, but have not yet had a response. I will just await them to see what they can suggest before going for the "Nuclear" option :-)
Many thanks
Kevin.

There was no fix for my issue, as the only solution was to remove the software and re-install.
Run the upgrade wizard located: 'C:\Program Files or x86\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin\upgrade.bat' once this completes
Run the Management Server Configuration Wizard again to complete the migration process.
If the issue persists, run Symhelp.exe and check for actual errors.
