Appassure 5.4.2 and Exchange 2013 report different dates for full backup

In Exchange Admin Center...Servers...Databases...Edit Mailbox Database...General, "Last Full Backup" field shows 12/13/2015. In the Appassure Core Console, my "Base" recovery point for all volumes is dated 2/11/2016.

A little background: 12/13/2015 was the date I moved the Exchange backup Agent to point to a new Appassure Core server. I did turn off some health logging on the Exchange server on 12/14 as the disk was filling up rapidly, don't know if that's related.

I am concerned that the Exchange mailbox database has not updated its status and that this might indicate a non-viable (restorable) backup.

Version Appassure 5.4.2 is quiet old, so you must decide to update that too the latest version. But before update make sure you contact the AppAssure to make sure that what is recommended version from them for Exchange 2013.

Secondly to clear your doubt, if all the incremental backups are working fine on AppAssure that you would not need to worry about the dates that it is showing. It would be alright if the incremental backups are working.

Are you taking full+incremental backups? If yes then it seems to be ok. Full backup is taken in December 2015 and since then it is taking incrementals.
The best way to find out this is restoring the latest backup to a test machine.

Thanks for your comments. The issue is, my (only) full backup in Appassure is dated 2/16/2016. My Exchange server says the last full backup is 12/13/2015. I do have incrementals since 2/16 but that is not what I'm worried about. Why does the Exchange server not say that the last full backup was 2/16/2016?

FYI: My Appassure is actually version 5.4.3.106. As far as I know that's the latest version.

Are you taking full server backup or backing up the Exchange databases?
Are these backups created by the same job?

Appassure backs up an entire image of a disk volume(s) when it does a "base" backup. It is supposed to be "Exchange aware" so Exchange should report the correct full backup date as well. (A "base" Appassure backup is the equivalent of a "full" backup).

Appassure does not back up individual files, just disk volumes.

AppAssure 5 Core
Version: 5.4.3.106

What you have mentioned in the question is different 5.4.2.

As you have mentioned that you have moved the Exchange AppAssure agent to new AppAssure Core.
In that case the new AppAssure Core would have taken the new Base image. Could you please confirm this?

To reiterate:  My base image in Appassure is from 2/16/2016. This is not an incremental, it is a base. On the other hand, the Exchange server logs (NOT Appassure, but Exchange Server Event Log) says the "last full backup" is 12/13/2015.

I would think it should say the same date as the Appassure base (2/16/2016) but it does not. I am trying to understand why this is so.

This has nothing to do with the incrementals that I have gotten since 2/16.

Dell is wanting me to purchase the Core copy.......
Do you use any other tool t backuo Exchange? Or did you use in December one on it?
Alex Scarfone

ASKER
In December I was backing up Exchange with a different Appassure Core server, which has been retired. There may be some setting I am missing on the new core server.

It looks like by turning off the health logging you've turned off the updating this file information on Exchange side. Thus when the newest backuk is taken the file information on Exchange side is not updated. Turn it on again and run new backup and see if the information gets updated.

Will look tomorrow on my Exchange 2010 if I have similar file options like yours.
Did you use Windows Server Backup somehow on this Exchange?

No, just Appassure. I believe it leverages the vss writer though.

Ok, my 2010 does not have this option. I will roll out 2013 tomorrow.
