Spam solution needed

We currently subscribe to Sonic Walls  Anti-Spam service to help eliminate spam from getting to the mail server but it doesn't seem to be doing a very good job.  It does block quite a bit of spam but there is still a whole lot that gets by it as well and the spam that does get to the end user is obvious spam.  I don't' understand how it gets past the scanners.  Is there a better solution out there I could try or can I add another solution at the mail server to give it a second layer?   We use a Microsoft Exchange 2013 server.

Have you thought about getting a hosted solution like message labs?
Hosted Exchange (a good one) is the best way around this issue.

Alternatively look at the Barracuda Spam Filter and perhaps also Grey Listing.
We use Fortinet's Fortimail appliance with antispam, antivirus, content filtering and grey listing and it has been amazing. Have you correctly configured the Sonicwall? Some times a setting here or there means a world of difference like heuristics, sender reputation & validation, SPF check, behavior analysis, subscriptions to the right blacklists, image spam etc.
This probably isn't going to be a popular one, but two of my Not For Profit Clients had me test MXGuard Dog.

I have to say I am impressed.  not sure how they can do it for the fee (25c Us per mailbox per month) but it has been very successful to the point I am trailing it myself.  Its dead easy to set up, has AD integration and emails the users a list of emails each day allowing them to release the False positives.
