i had to install to install stubord trojan killer ! cuz i dint know with app to uninstall on the phone ! he found 6 rooted malware and not it good to go

Hello Experts - I purchased three of these Contixo LA703 tablets on Amazon for my kids because they had very good reviews and were inexpensive. I'm finding that even after removing the kid safe software that the performance on these things is terrible, they are mostly unusable. I really don't know why they had such high reviews on Amazon. So I'd like to try wiping them and installing a different version of Android to see if I can make them usable. They are running a custom version of Android 4.4 right now. I haven't been able to find anything online about rooting these devices so I'm wondering how I could go about doing this. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd very much appreciate it, thanks!
