File explorer not working from taskbar in Windows 10
Windows File explorer stopped working from the taskbar in windows 10. It works from the start button, or from all apps. I am using Classic shell, but it was working after I installed that program.
The only programs I have filed recently are two file wipe programs. One does integrate with file explorer. But I removed it and still have the same problem.

Describe the problem, please.
-what happens when you left click on it, what, when you right click?
-does it occur for all users?

Well there is only one user. but when I left click nothing happens. no response at all.
when I right click I get a menu 4 items in dark black area, 2 items in grey area below black area. whole thing about 1.5" square. The top four items are downloads, documents, pictures, and a folder named downloads. The bottom two items are File Explorer and unpin from taskbar. Other than unpin from taskbar none of the items do anything when left clicked. When right clicked you get Open, properties, and unpin from this list. except for file explorer which just has open and properties. Open works for every item except file explorer, and properties shows the properties of each folder. Properties of file explorer shows the properties of that shortcut.

Create a user, just for a test, does it work for him?
Interesting. So it seems to be a corrupted windows.
You can do a repair installation. Start windows 10 v1511 setup from within your running windows, select upgrade and keep anything: files, settings and programs. It repairs anything that's system internal.

I ran sfc /scannow and it didn't find any problems. This is a relative new install upgraded to November update recently.
Windows 10 is so unstable we have to keep repairing it?
I don't see where in windows 10 to reinstall windows 10 and keep apps in place. Reset says it will uninstall apps. the only other choice is to install from disk or flash drive.
Great, you found it. 3rd party programs with context menu extensions often screw things up, that would have been a diagnostic step we should have taken before, disble all context menu extensions using nirsoft's shellexview. Select your own comment now to close.
