What is the best tool for syncing Outlook and Google contacts?

I would like to be able to synchronize my Google and Outlook contacts. I wouldn't mind being able to do the same with the calendar and tasks, but right now, the contacts are paramount. Of the one product I have evaluated, it cannot sync fields that are not common to both applications. Is that something I'm just going to have to live with?

I was using Sync2 by 4Team Corporation. I suspect that the Google application is the best solution, but I am neither a business nor a student so I don't qualify. I'll take a look at the "GO" solution.
That didn't go well! I guess it's always one of the risks, but now, in addition to dropped fields, I have a bunch of duplicates! The Google account is the master, so I'll have to go and clean it up. I don't know how much better Google apps might be than the tools I've tried, but it appears as though synchronizing Outlook and Google is just a pipe dream.
Of the two I've tried, Sync2 and Go Contact Sync Mod, it is the latter which appears to produce more predictable results. From what I can tell, it is the initial sync that is the key.
Sorry you had issues. The instructions said, "By default, the program will prompt you if you want to merge any duplicate contacts, or you can decide whether Outlook wins or Google wins the merge operation. Finally, you can select which way syncs are performed – either Outlook to Google or Google to Outlook."

Perhaps, there was a couple of checkboxes that you may have overlooked?
I'm still testing Go Contacts Sync Mod. After cleaning up my Google contacts, I have used this product to synchronize with Outlook, two or three times. So far, all I've noticed is that the number of contacts has gone from 303 to 305. I have yet to determine what the additional records are. These results are much better than my first attempts with 4Team's Sync2, where the size of my database almost doubled!

Something strange is happening in the calendar, whereby some events are being duplicated. I'm not yet sure why that's happening.

And, yes, I saw the checkboxes for configuring the application's behavior when it encounters conflicts. According to convention, those checkboxes should be radio buttons. At least that's the way they behave. And their labels imply that their functions are mutually exclusive. Although it was initially confusing, I started with the safest choice.
I have been running 4Team Corporation's Sync2 for a couple of days. I had to fix a number of duplicated events in my Google calendar, otherwise my data has survived several synchronizations.

Currently, I'm running this program in trial mode. I don't believe any of its features are crippled in this mode. At the end of the trial period, it will simply stop functioning. I will use the remaining time to tinker with it, after which I will publish my findings.

Glad to be of help. Good luck.
Although the contributing expert pointed me towards a number of resources, ultimately, I found a solution that met all of my needs. Although the Go Contacts Sync Mod application from sourceforge.net might work just as well, I felt like 4Team Corporation's Sync2 was easier to use. And, as a commercial product, it comes with very comprehensive customer support.
