PARYLENE

We have several PCB assemblies that we are trying to remove the coating, which we are told is Parylene C.

Do you know of a simple chemical method of removal, which will not damage the components, but will remove the coating?

I have read that the only way to remove small areas is by mechanical or abrasive processes, but we need to remove all the coating not just a small section.

Unfortunately not Paralenes are ridiculously resistant to solution in anything.  Those acids that would remove the polymer layer would also eat their way through the components underneath with no problem at all.  It's partly this property that is why it's used, not just in electrical components but as a coating layer for indwelling medical devices.
