replace 10GB adapter with 1GB adapter on Prolaint

Greetings,

I am getting a Proliant server from someone that has a 2-port 10GB adapter. We don't have 10GB switches so I was hoping I could just swap out the 2-port 10GB adapter with a 4-port 1GB adapter. The 4-port adapter will be for iSCSI and LAN traffic. I am adding another 4-port 1GB adapter as well so I will have (2) 4-port 1GB adapters if I can replace the 10GB.

It will be an ESXi host connected to the LAN and SANs.

Can this be done?

Thanks

Yes, some of our installations, are ALL 1GBe, and use 12 network interface ports.

Make sure

1. OEM version of ESXi is used, e.g. HP version.
2. Update all firmware, especially the firmware on he network interfaces e.g. use HP SmartStart Firmware DVD

Thanks Andrew, as usual. I just wasn't sure if the 10GB adapter could be physically replaced a 1GB adapter. I will use the OEM version and update all firmware.

thanks again
