scanning to email using smtp
Hi, wanted to know how to set up our printer/scanner so that users can scan directly to email. The new printer we got is leased and was installed by a tech who once he got printer up and running for users, said in order to scan to email we would have to use smtp. First i guess we have to install the scanner driver and once scanner works for regular scanning then what would be the steps involved in enabling them to scan directly to email using? Do we need to enter the mail hosting server name along with user credentials? Thanks.

The printer is a canon imagerunner advance c5235A. We have the email hosted by a provider and we have the name of the email server as well as ip address. In the meantime, once the scanner driver is installed and at least the scanner is working, couldnt they just email the scanned document as an attachment? I know the scan to email directly is more convenient but just wanna make sure they can at least scan then send it as attachment.
I am currently using the canon imagerunner advance 4051 and we use internal email server to scan and send without any issues.
After doing further investigation it seems as that your email host must be able to support pop/smtp. You will need to use your POP credentials to be able to send to their SMTP server (if allowed or supported at all).

Sounds good, will need that info from canon tech but thanks for the help so far.
You're welcome and I am glad to help. Good luck!
If you host your own SMTP (host your own email server) then you can just configure the printer to send via the email server (providing email relaying is enabled from the printer's ip addres or internally).
If you use webmail (cloud mail, hosted email) then it depends on whether your printer can "talk" to the webmail server. Will need to see the printer's manual if this configuration is possible.
