Cannot access all shadow copies even though there is enough space for the shadows on the drive.
Cannot access all shadow copies even though there is enough space for the shadows on the drive.
Background:
I have a Windows 2008 R2 server being used for file storage.
The drive I have set the shadow copy on has 500gb of data on it.
The drive itself has 5TB of space so very little is being used.
I have set the drive shadow copy to use 500gb of space.
Its seems I can access the newest 5 of the shadow copies in my list of previous versions but there are lots of older entries in the list that I get an error message if I try to access the folders (see below)
At first I though that I needed to increase the shadow copy size but as you can see from the screenshot below only 35gb has been used.
Please advise.

Yes that's right it seems like a permissions issue but then why can I open the first 5 shadow copy previous versions. I am a domain admin and the one who set up the shadow copy in the first place. Please advise. Its seems that after the 5th previous version it comes up with that permissions error. I have right over all the files.

The "volume shadow copy" service was set to "manual" and NOT started. I have set to automatic and started it now.
Note: every shadow copy has been fine since I increased the space used for shadow copies.

Nice find.
Are you logged in as the file owner, administrator or or a user with elevated privileges?
The error message states pretty clearly that you do not have permissions to access the default share "\\localhost\D$\..."
