Display port connections?
I have Dell Optliplex 9020 and 7020 desktop computers with display port connections. They are running Windows 10.
I have a Dell 24" E2414HM which only has a DVI port and a S2240L IPS display with a HDMI connector.
In terms of overall picture quality, especially with the IPS display that will be used with a graphic intensive application, am I better off putting inexpensive video cards in these computers and using the HDMI and DVI connectors or getting displayport to HDMI and DVI adapters and using them?

Not really.
One has sound and is encrypted (hdmi)
The other is just straight digital.(dvi)
DP is supposed to be able handle 4k ,but very few 4k monitors out there.(or DP for that matter).
