asked on

why does this firewall rule block internet only for me?

Trying to set up a ubiquiti edgerouter.  at 10 minutes into this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9XTSHGJEDw

he says to make a rule that blocks everything other than the unifi inform port 8080 to the eth0.

I do that and lose internet access.  Any thoughts why there's only 1 other person in that situation?

no, I'm on the private network.

I'm trying to keep the 2 subnets seperate for people using the guest SSID but allow employees on the private SSID to access the private network and the private network to access the Unifi wireless access ppoint (that uses port 8080

btan - thanks for that.

interesting - that post is from 2013?  The only port I keep hearing about is 8080? Conceivable that's the only port it needs these days?

But regardless of that, i'm wondering what I am doing wrong with that 1 rule that kills the internet on that port.  To me, the rule he says to make makes sense to stop intenret access.  But (only) one other person had the same issue.  We;re doing something wrong and I don't understand what.

ie the ports for the unifi isn't the issue here - i"m trying to understand how he's saying to drop all packets and NOT expecting that to ruin the internet.
