2012 R2 Hyper-V Server Edition - Windows 10 Hyper-V Manager
I am setting up a pilot server to run remote capable virtual machines on a server. I will likely have a full blown 2012 R2 license if the project gets approval. In the mean time, I have installed the free Hyper-V server from MS and I have successfully created a VM and a Virtual switch. The VM is running according to the Get-VM. I have joined this server to the domain and it is accepting domain credentials. Here is where i am having problems: I would like to preferably use the Hyper-V manager from my Windows 10 Laptop but I keep getting the same message. "An Error occured while attempting to connect to server [servernamehere]. Check that the virtual machine management service is running and that you are authorized to connect to the server." I have researched hours and run the 2 minute fix that adds the information to the firewall. I have added my direct domain username to the Hyper-V managers and the Remote administrators group. Still get this message.
I have also tried to access the VM from the server directly but I am unsure how to do so from CMD or PS. does anyone have any suggestions?

The win10 Hyper-V Manager is not suitable to manage 2012 VMs. for 2012, you want to use a 2012 server or windows 8.0. For 2012 R2, you want to use a 2012 R2 server or windows 8.1 Full stop. The tools are, sadly, not cross compatible.

Clarification: The VMs will be running Windows 7 Pro for end users to connect to remotely.
Good to know, Is there a way to view and control the VMs from the Host server? This version is nothing but cmd and powershell (zero real GUI); I just don't know the commands. I am hoping this will suit the needs for now so we can get a full blown server. If not, I have a server available to run the management tools but is a little more clunky to get to. Thank you for the reply!

Well, sounds like I might just need to hit the drawing board. Perhaps prop up a few old desktops in the closet as a proof of concept. Thanks for the advice!
