User has iMac with Yosemite 10.10<br />
The mail arrives on the Yahoo web page, but can be delayed 20 minutes to hours on the mail program on the iMac.<br />
<br />
When a delay happened this AM, I quit Mail, and when i restarted the mail program, the delayed messages arrived.<br />
<br />
I can rebuild the inbox, and the utility system I use MainMenuPro has a feature which can 'vacuum' the mail index.<br />

Any other suggestions?<br />

Mail Program on iMac 10.10 slow to pick up Yahoo Mail

Apple devices including Macs, iPhones, iPods and iPad support standard wired and wireless networking technologies, but they also utilize custom applications and some special techniques for networking with each other and with non-Apple devices. Apple manufacturers the AirPort line of wireless networking products, and has its own networking protocols, AppleTalk and AFP (Apple Filing Protocol).

A web application that provides message management, composition, and reception functions may internally act as an email client; as a whole, it is commonly referred to as webmail. Likewise, email client may be referred to a piece of computer hardware or software whose primary or most visible role is to work as an email client. Email clients can also have other systems, like calendars, notes and contact managers.

Email Clients

Interactions between email servers and clients are governed by email protocols. The three most common email protocols are POP, IMAP and MAPI. Most email software operates under one of these (and many products support more than one).  The correct protocol must be selected, and correctly configured, if you want your email account to work.
