Need help from someone who uses Thurderbird e-mail on a daily basis

Thunderbird worked fine for a few days. Then yesterday it won't recognize the password. A popup box opened to change password. Password was changed but still no recognition. The guy is using his ISP e-mail address that was used with Outlook Express for many years. Another symptom he has is that when he did get logged in, the only "box" along the left side was the inbox. Nothing else.
Windows 7 and new version of Thunderbird.

??

I called ISP tech support and another user had the same issue. They checked settings and found nothing wrong. So it may be a Thunderbird issue that last X number of hours, days or weeks.

Anyone had periodic issues with Thunderbird and how long it takes to resolve?

POP and the setting was entered last week and the program has been working fine until yesterday.
Did you continue to have problems after restarting and / or rebooting?

It's not my system, we can try restart tomorrow.

All the settings had changed in the program. We called ISP and they corrected them.

One lingering Thunderbird problem. From the image you see there is no left side window to show the inbox, sent, trash, etc.
What setting affects that being there or not being there?

Yes it is working fine as far as I know. It's not my system.
