"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

To be honest, and frank, we would use vCenter Server for WINDOZE at all.

The vCenter Server Appliance has now provided it-self, and at VMworld 2015, in Barcelona, VMware hited that vCenter Server for Windoze would be deprecated in the future, e.g. no more.

5 VMs hosts, SQL Express - NO.

Based on VMs and 5 hosts, your are beyond 10GB in the database, not recommended.

SQL Express is only suitable today for Essentials and Essentials Plus, 3 hosts, and then you are on the limit.

HOW TO: Deploy and Install the VMWARE vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 (VCSA 6.0)

we are moving all our Client intsalls now to the Appliance!

Does not matter what license you have, it's based on Hosts and Number of VMs.

either full version of SQL, or use the Appliance, and embedded database, which is not SQL.
