Xerox WorkCentre 7855 Network Scan Issue

Have an intermittent issue.

The network does have several scanners throughout the office. Two of them are the same Xerox Workcentre 7855 machines and both are having the same issue to the same folder. Each Xerox Workcentre 7855 has about 30 Address Book entries for folders shared over the network. Users can perform a scan function to all of the folders except for one folder.

This folder is named "Development" and has the same exact permissions as the other folders that do not have issues. Sometimes scanning to "Development" will work, sometimes not. There is no difference between the scans that are being done. They are all 11x17 single page documents.

We have tried recreating the folder entirely and verifying all the permissions were set.

We have tried using several different AD accounts as authentication and it is the same issue regardless of the type of account (user, domain admin, full domain administrator).

We have tried sharing the "Development" folder and having the scans go directly to the "Development" share instead of \\share\"Development".

We've had the user try two scans within seconds of each other. One worked, the other didn't.

There are no logs on the scanner. The screen shows this while trying to scan to the folder:

Have you try recreating the development folder. Rename the current development to something else. Create a new one. Share it. then copy content from old development to new folder. Try re-scanning?

Yes. Same issue with a newly created folder with the same Development. We have even destroyed/re-created the address book entry after re-creating the folder to make sure there was nothing remaining.

Correct, the logs should be available under the Properties menu after logging in with the admin account on the web interface.  It will be under Security > Audit Log.  Save the log to your desktop, it will be in a compressed format so you'll need 7zip or WinRAR to decompress, and then open with Excel.  It will be tab delimited for import.  The error codes shown will have to be  compared to those in the admin user guide for that model.

It may be possible that "Development" is a reserved word for Xerox functions.  Have you tried naming this folder to "Dev" or a different synonym to see if that works?

The log file is encrypted and I cannot open the file.

That's strange.  We have the same model at the office and it was not encrypted for me.  I'd recommend you contact Xerox support to see why it is encrypted.  By default Xerox does use encryption on the hard disk for stored jobs and images, but the log should be accessible.  Do you have any non-default security restrictions related to encryption applied to the copier?

We had to essentially beg the printer management company to get their techs to update the firmware. After they updated the firmware, all folders started working normally.

The Windows operating systems have distinct methodologies for designing and implementing networks, and have specific systems to accomplish various networking processes, such as Exchange for email, Sharepoint for shared files and programs, and IIS for delivery of web pages. Microsoft also produces server technologies for networked database use, security and virtualization.
