Can I still use Windows backup to backup my VMware VM at Windows 2012 R2

Till date I am using Windows backup to backup my HyperV virtual machine at Windows server 2012 R2.

Now I am switching to VMware workstation 12 pro.

Can I still use Windows backup to backup my VMware VM including baremetal recovery option.

If you want to recover your VM you have to backup at least the vmdk-File of your VM.
So you can copy vmdk to another hypervisor (VMWorkstation, ESXi) an make a new VM including the "old" vmdk. If you want to have a baremetal recovery option you must do this inside the OS of the VM.

ASKER

Tx for the support.

I want to schedule backup on Host machine using inbuilt windows backup software.
Will this backup VMware machines same as it backup HyperV machines.

Guest machine is windows server 2012 R2 std.
