CRM 2011 Modifying Reports/RDL based

Environment:    CRM 2011, RU 14, SQL Server 2012, Visual Studio 2010

I have some SSRS reports that I need to make some minor changes (field names, remove fields, etc).  Can you tell me the easiest tool to use and where I get it.  I have created and modified RDL based reports before but it was a long time ago.

I have access to whatever software I need so what should I download to quickly modify the rdl and re-attach it to CRM.

Thanks

I suggest you use SQL Server Data Tools - it is an optional component of SQL Server so it might not have been selected when SQL Server was installed.

Hi,

You will need SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS). It can be availed with SQL Server 2008 Express edition.

And as suggested by Feridun, SQL Server Data Tools for SQL server 2012 can be used too.

Thank you for your quick responses, which has the Report Builder tool and do these get installed on my CRM server or SQL server
Feridun KadirPrincipal ConsultantCommented:
Report Builder is a separate tool, you can download that from Microsoft. Make sure you pick the version that matches your SQL Server.

However, I prefer to use SQL Server Data tools - you have more control over the editing.

Thanks, does SQL Server Data Tools get installed on the CRM App server or CRM SQL Server or a separate development workstation?
Feridun KadirPrincipal ConsultantCommented:
You can install it on the SQL Server or any other computer.

If you already have Visual Studio 2012 or later you can data tools to it. Have a look here, https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/mt204009.aspx

I downloaded SSDT and it created a start menu link on my CRM App Server.  When I click on SQL Server Data Tools, it opens my full Visual Studio 2010 in TFS mode (which we use)

Is it under a menu item in VS?  Looked under Tools, File, View, etc

Can you tell me where it is?

Thanks

I am using SSDT and it is working for what I need

Thanks
