Licensing a Guest VM on Hyper V 2012 R2

Good Morning Experts,

I am having trouble licensing a new VM I created on our new Hyper V server.

We purchased 2012 R2 Datacenter so we could license all the guest VM's but how to activate them is confusing me.

I have done some research and came across this:
slmgr.vbs /ipk <AVMA_Client_Key>
I ran this with the appropriate code and it comes up with an error.  When I evaluate the error it says the code is wrong.

Am I suppose to license it with our DataCenter code or build a kms with our Datacenter code?

So confused, thank you for your help.

A key is not a license.  The good news is if you have data center, you are licensed.  Getting the key installed is another matter.

They keys you use are as follows:
Datacenter
Y4TGP-NPTV9-HTC2H-7MGQ3-DV4TW
Standard
DBGBW-NPF86-BJVTX-K3WKJ-MTB6V
Essentials
K2XGM-NMBT3-2R6Q8-WF2FK-P36R2

The above keys and instructions on using them are here:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303421.aspx

Do NOT use your key.  If you have further errors, please post screen shots - you shouldn't be posting anything private since the keys above are publicly available.

ASKER

That's the one I tried and I get a error.  I tried multiple times and the same result.  I didn't try my own yet and I wouldn't post it.  I will do it again and post the screen shots.
keyerror.tiff

Here is the error I get after running that code.

WELL!  Guess what just activated once I took a closer look and realized it wasn't R2!  I upgraded to R2 (this is a test Vm and nothing installed on it yet) and re ran the code.  Said it was successful.  Thank you so much!
