2012 domain
2 domain users who had full access to onenote files have had new PCs, now they only have read only?
I have a warning at the top of the page the 'we couldn't merge some changes. click here.....', once clicked the message is 'conflicting changes are highlighted in red. you can copy...... when you're done, delete the conflicting page.
not sure where to go from here.
thanks

Check the one note file permissions on the files/folder that is having the issue. That sounds to me like an Active Directory user/group permissions issue. You may need to re-apply permissions to the affected folder as well.

hi John-Paul,
thanks, no joy I am afraid.
I should add, everyone else in the business is using Office 2010/2013, these 2 users are using Office 2016. I don't think it makes a difference but thought I should add just in case.

Has MS Office 2016 or One Note 2016 been activated? It may be running as a trial version which would cause files to open as read only.
hi JP, yes it is activated and not a trial version.

Ok, next item I would check is in One Note under File, Options, Trust Center, Trust Center Settings. One of the trust settings may need to be modified. I dont have OneNote 2016 in front of me otherwise I would give you more specific directions. Here is a link I found on MS site about changing trusted locations. You may have to make your server share a trusted location.
I have tried all 3 of the OneNote 2016 in the office and all of them show as read only.
I have read a lot on the net now, 2016 should allow me to use any older version of ON but it seems in this case it is not. my questions.
How can I check the version of the ON file, ie how can I see if it is a 2007 created file?
If it is 2007 a) how can I force it to allow the use of 2016, or b) what is the process for converting 2007 to 2010.
I specify 2010 as the client has 2010/13/16 Office deployed.
