I'm assuming that the partition size in the VM hasn't been increased? &nbsp;If that's true, and the VMWare VMDk is all that has been increased, than you should have a few ways I can think of to do so:<br />
<br />
1: &nbsp;If you can vmotion, do a vmotion and change the disk type to thin provisioned. &nbsp;Even though this wont change it to be a smaller disk, it wont ever take up more space on disk than the OS calls for, so unless you expand the virtual partition in the VM, you should be fine if it's a disk space concern.<br />
<br />
2: &nbsp;Create a NEW virtual disk of the correct size, and attach it to the VM. &nbsp; Use the operating system to mirror the virtual disk to the new VMDK, and then remove the mirror from the old disk, then delete the old, larger virtual disk. &nbsp;I've done this to &nbsp;migrate between datastores where I couldn't use a storage VMotion, and managed to complete the migration with zero downtime, but it does depend on what OS the virtual is running..<br />

3: &nbsp;Similar to #2, but if you can spare some downtime, create and connect a new virtual disk of the correct size, then use a LiveDisk of a disk cloning program (I've used clonezilla for this, which is free and linux based) to copy from the larger disk to the smaller one. &nbsp;You'll have to likely copy the individual partitions, depending on the utility you use because it may say there's not enough space on the smaller disk.<br />

I've used each of these methods at various times to accomplish similar tasks, and have had good luck.. &nbsp;Just make sure you dont accidentally mirror an EMPTY disk onto your data volume!!<br />
