It was my browser on that item preserving favorites. &nbsp;So now it's off for the entire site but my virtual directories are saying this when I try to enable directory browsing just on them. &nbsp;There was a error while perfomraing theis operation. &nbsp;Cannot write configuration file.<br />

the path name showing is \\?\UNC\Reports\WebReprots<wbr />\web.confi<wbr />g<br />

the directory is a VD and I am pointing to it using the name of the box it's located on. Works fine as long as I leave the directory browsing open for the entire site.

He wrote his own program that operates outside of IIS. &nbsp;IIS is normally very limited and doesn't allow access to directories on other computers.

you need to enable writing to the share and give the apppool identity permission to write to the directory so they can write a web.config to that directory.

Server 2003 had no problem doing this. &nbsp;So you are saying go to the virtual folder and give write permission to that directory. &nbsp;Let me try that.

If I add this with write permission will this work it says The &quot;IIS APPPOOL\AppPoolName&quot; user is by default a member of the IIS_IUSRS group<br />

I added the IIS _IUSR account with write permissions to the default site under IIS admins site. &nbsp; I can't add it to the virtual directory using the IIS admin site because it's greyed out. &nbsp;On the computer with the virtual directory it can't find it there either. &nbsp;Just adding to the default site is still throwing the same error. &nbsp; How can I get this accomplished? &nbsp;Do I have to recreate the virtual directory and then add it at the time I create it?

I went to the site level and selected directory browsing under features, disabled it then restarted IIS still working, then did a server restart and still working. &nbsp;It does say it's disabled. &nbsp;What am I doing wrong here.
