Yes, this is what I was doing...thinking this is where I needed to make sure the SID was unchanged.<br />

So as long as I don't touch the 'Customize Guest Preferences' option, the SID will be unchanged?

correct, no need to change anything, do not tick it. It's only if you run the Customize Guest Preferences, it will change the SID.

Apparently, what I want to do is in most cases the unwanted and unexpected default result of a P2V conversion.<br />
I want to keep the same SID in the new virtual machine the current physical one has.<br />

I am using converter 5.5 and trying to covert a 2008 R2 box.<br />
When I get to the customization screen, the option for 'Generate New SID' is checked by default and cannot be changed.<br />
Looking through the help files says this is expected behavior.<br />
