POP3 mail from GMail includes website data in signature

A client sends mail from his POP3 account via GMail, and in his signature he has the URL from his website. GMail appears to be pulling the Title and Description from the site, as well as a small graphic from it, and adding this below the signature. Is there any way to disable this?User generated image

You could make the web address hyperlinked text, rather than including the whole web address.

OK, so...is this actually happening via Gmail? IS there no setting within that can prevent it from doing this?

What I mean is, I can't even find anything anywhere stating that GMail automatically pulls HTML data from a site with a URL in a signature and adds it below the signature. I find it hard to believe that they would have  this functionality and not provide any method to disable it.
