Can DFS destroy a share?

hello Im about to enable DFS on a production server and set up replication to a new VM. The VM is on a VLAN locally, then after it sync's the plan is to relocate it to another site.  So far everything is setting up correctly with both servers on the namespace, etc.

Question is, one server is loaded with Data and I dont want to lose anything so going from left to right Im assuming when I get there. Left being the existing server. Any dangers with pulling the trigger on this?
