Hiring problem - prove you can speak

I need to have a very quick way when talking to someone, to get them to prove that they have a working microphone and that they can indeed speak in an understandable way.

My thinking was that I could have a phrase that I pasted into a chat window or job posting somewhere.  The hiring party would then have to click the link provided and speak using that phrase.

I could then play back the recording and make a decision on that basis, about whether it was worth it to try to work with that person on something.

Assistance is greatly appreciated.

I interview and help hire people.

If local, interview them and listen to them.

If not local, conduct a Skype interview. That can work very well and answers your specific question very well.

Thank you sir.  I appreciate it very much.

The problem I currently have is that once I "try" to make contact, I generally don't want to go back, unless there is some compelling reason, such as the ability to actually talk to the person.

So in the interest of time, what I would like to do is allow them to go through the process of actually saying something.  This needs to happen before I decide to interview them.

I could then check the page and see that. My thinking is that if I start there, the rest of it can evolve.
If you were to try to record them , you have to advise them in advance. I don't recommend that. Skype might prove best for you because it covers all bases.
The problem is that they can't send me a link to that.  Imagine the following scenario.

Let's say I posted the following:

I was hoping that I could get your assistance with a project I am working on. If you are interested, please click here. You will be prompted to tell me your name (verbally). Please also tell me (verbally), the best ways to reach you, and what time it is where you live. When you are finished, send me the link to your recording.

Prior to this, there has been no two way conversation and won't be unless they pass the "prove you can speak" test.  This will save precious time and energy the part of both parties for mutual benefit.

I think you have to be more cut throat with your interviews you said you don't want to go "back" once you've contacted them - however when filling a job position you will need to interview more then one person to give yourself options. I would suggest either skype or in person interview to decide whether they are the best fit for the job. If you're trying to weed out the weak from the strong, this is the only way.

Giving someone advanced notice that they will be recorded isn't a great idea, or even providing them a sequence of events which allows them to work on what they would say.

Being the interviewee at the interview is always a nerve racking process, however if you're good at what you do and can backup your resume verbally then that's the person i would hire.

It's a dog eat dog world in the job market these days, let the best man win.

You are so fantastic!  Thank you for saying that.  I'm glad you think that's a "good idea" because I like good ideas much better than bad ones.

Unfortunately, I have a whole lot of bad ideas.  User generated image
