Tools to centrally manage Windows, Linux & Solaris servers/VMs
I'm evaluating what are the tools that could do central management of >1000 servers/VMs,
specifically, this tool must be able to:
a) by selecting a list of servers/VMs, this tool could remotely from a single central console,
send OS commands to be executed to the managed servers: usually I'll issue a Windows
command to list out the current patches to all Windows servers, or a Unix/Linux command
to list out rpms (rpm -qa ...)
b) be able to upload/download files to a list of selected servers (for the purpose of uploading
patches, execute the rpm or msi/exe uploaded files & once done, housekeep the uploaded
files)
One such tool is HP Server Automation but I need a few (including freewares).
Tools suggested must meet audit/security standards, eg: while sending commands over or
uploading, it must be in encrypted to prevent Man-In-THe_Middle), etc
