no SVI and no default gateway on Cisco switches

Can the experts explain why PC1 on vlan404 can ping PC2  vlan on vlan 401. I thought that in order to ping from one vlan to another, you need a default gateway. Here, my 7750 switch does not have a DG or SVIs.

This is for all Cisco switches

Hi,

Kindly confirm if the links connecting the L3 switches are trunk links.
There are default gateways defined on the L3 on the right hand side for vlans 401 and 404.

Predrag Jovic,
"you can build whole this topology with access links"
If you have access vlan401 between 7250 and 6509, I am not sure if PC2 can ping PC1.

I have never thought of your second design. That is very interesting. Thanks
