How Best to Store, Orgaanize, Share, & Tag Digital Photos For Company
Not sure how to best describe what is I want to ask but here goes:
Our company provides various services to the Commercial Fishing and Marine industries...
One of the byproducts is that we take and receive a great many photos of boats. 10's of 1000's each year.
Right now we store these on our file server with Windows File & Folder shares and permissions.
We need a better way. Some sort of server-based application software designed for photo storage and access? Any suggestions?

Hi,
I'd agree with David I think, if you want some free and basic. I've used both Picasa (Google) and ACDsee. I preferred Picasa but I'd suggest you try both and see which one like best yourself as they've probably changed since I last looked and of course tastes vary.
If you want more industrial strength software try the others above. Picasa and ACDsee are consumer products meant for the desktop. The only trawl your hard-drive or any path you provide. They don't store anything themselves.

I never liked one of the features Picasa since once it has scanned my drive or any devices for images it keeps a folder of those a copy of them for it's own file access. Doubling up on space.
However there is changes now as Google decided to retire Picasa in order to focus on a single photo service in Google Photos
see here
https://picasa.google.com/
Google photos is linked to our Google+ account which is linked to our youtube. Everything is getting put in one basket so I would suggest to definitely read-up about the different methods of photo storage.
