asked on

using an older HDD as secondary drive on newer machine.. what adapter needed?

on  the Dell Inspiron 620 - Core i5 2320, i dont seem to find an outlet inside the box to accommodate
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Drive-7200RPM-WD800BB-00JHC0/dp/B00450GB0O

is there a specific adapter to read this HDD as secondary drive in a more newer motherboard, as above?

thanks for your guidance..

so we have 2 choice to read this drive, right:
1)external USB carrier
2)SATA/IDE adapter (USB 3 vs 2)

with option (1), can you read both IDE and SATA drives anytime... (just plop one in and it reads it?)

you are right.. there is not lot of life to the 80GB drive..

but the situation is this: yes, i need to read this IDE drive.. but i also have 2 other older IDEs (olders PCs but these other IDE have more GBs to them and worth keeping)

so perhaps the external USB carrier would be of value (if i have this, i wont need a SATA/IDE adaptor, right?)


(yes, if need functional drive, will go for SATA in future.. (or perhaps SSD, if applicable))
