Crypto-infected Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, 7.0. Tricky removal problems.

I'm currently in the process of trying to remove a cryptolocker infection from a customer tablet. The problem I've run into is what I've hopefully identified as the hostile software (dubbed "Video Player"), has no uninstall feature. I've tried to remove device administration from the program only to find it wasn't active in the first place. I then proceeded to get avast! Ransomware Remover, only to find it doesn't work in Safe Mode on a phone. Which poses a problem as the locking infection blocks all programs from running. So I see no visible way to remove the software other than a hard reset of the phone back to factory. Anyone come across this before that has found an alternate solution that I've not yet tried?

I felt the same about it, to be honest. This customer is just fairly adamant about data retrieval so I wanted to reach out and get extra opinions and input first. I've had to reset every device that's come through infected with encryption bugs. Just needed to cover all of my bases so I could go to the customer with a complete picture of the problem, and ultimately, the solution.
Thanks for the input folks. I'll get back to my client as soon as possible and move forward from there.
