DL380 GEN 9 Memory Population

Dear All

Currently my server (DL380 GEN9) is balanced with all 16GB memory modules, I wanted to know if I balance this out again by adding 2x 32GB is that okay or do all the memory slots have to be populated will all the same Memory size?

Thanks
Alex

Thank you for the reply, so I clarify as long as you have the same number of DIMMs of each size memory i'n okay? An as long as start the largest form Letter Slot A with the biggest first for each processor I'm good to go?
Strictly balanced would have you install DIMMs in sets of 4 or (for 2 processors) 8, so that the nth DIMMs on each of the 4 channels per processor are identical. But, as I understand it, while this balancing is recommended, it is not required: the RAM controller will deal with the imbalance without measurably impacting real-world performance.

There's also the caveat not to intermix quad-rank 32GB modules with dual-rank 32GB modules.

But aside from that, I agree with your summary/clarification.

Still, it would be a good idea to check the user guide pages that I recommended to you to make sure there's not something particular to your situation that I may have neglected (mirrored memory configurations, spares, etc since they are not so common).
