Running Baan iV on VMware

Hi,
I have a client that runs Baan iV on Server 2000. We have virtualised this onto Esxi 6 host. But when I try to run Baan I get a license error. After a bit of investigating I noticed the Baan License service is not running. It seems Baan cannot run in a VMware environment.

However I have read there is a workaround. If I can get hold of an older porting set like 6.1c.xx.xx, copy the licd.exe and replace the current licd this will get it running under VM. I am not a Baan expert as all and I don't know where I can get the older porting set (or how to use it).

Has anyone virtualised Baan iV before? or can point in the right direction for the older porting set?

Thanks in advance,
Colin

I think you are out of luck. Baan licensing will not run in a Virtual machine.

That is about all I can find out about this old system.
I'm not aware how Baan software is dependent of the hardware since I'm not a Baan specialist, but I have done a lot of migration of application to virtual environment and some of them are licensed based on the MAC address of the system. So, try change the MAC address of virtual machine to the same MAC address of your old Windows 2000 physical server.

Doing a search on Baan message board, some guys recommends what I told above, see: http://www.baanboard.com/baanboard/showthread.php?t=57468

If you don't know how to assign a static MAC address to an ESXi virtual machine, see: https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=219
