User in distribution list receives internal email but does not receive external email

I have a user who is part of a distribution list it is used by one of my company's client. Everyone on the DL receives emails from the client except this one specific user. However, when one of our internal users send an email to to the DL, the user that can't receive the client emails receives the internal email.  I checked the DL and found that this is the only user added to the DL by a mail contact and not by a user mailbox. Could this have something to do with why she does not receive client emails through the DL but can receive messages from in-house?

P.S. - This user is also using a email address from a different domain, however, a trust was established between both domains once the acquisition which originally brought the domains together had been completed.

I just checked the Message Delivery Restrictions and found that both the mail contact and the distribution group have the settings just as you suggested.

No delivery restrictions. No rules in place. I confirmed  the email contact info is all correct. I will try removing the user and adding her again to see what happens
I ended up resolving this issue by creating a mailbox for the user in the Exchange's native domain and adding that to the DL. Thank you all for your time and input.
