Windows machines cache DNS queries. (as do most other OSs) Thus, if you have just been to the website, no DNS lookup will be required. <br />

I am trying to trace a DNS query to a website done using my internet browser. I am trying to see the traffic using Wireshark, but cannot find any packets that has the query to my dns for that particular website (A record).<br />

Can someone provide a Wireshark filter that will display this packet?<br />

Tracing a DNS query to a website

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical, globally distributed system responsible for associating the name of a computer, service or other resource into an IP address for connecting to the Internet or a private network. Most prominently, it translates domain names to the numerical IP addresses needed for the purpose of computer services and devices worldwide.
