HP Laserjet P4015X Issue After Applying Latest Firmware Update
Hi
I applied the latest firmware update to a HP LaserJet P4015X printer the other day and since then I've been unable to use the printer with the additional tray 3 attached. If tray 3 is attached and I power up the printer none of the rollers rotate and I see "Check paper....paper will be ejected" on the Lcd of the printer and I'm unable to print. I also noticed that within paper handling on the printer itself I only see tray 1 listed, not tray 2 or tray 3.
If I remove trays 3 and power up the printer it works fine and in paper handling I can see tray 1 and tray 2.
Apparently this firmware issue is a well known issue with the P4015X & P4515X printers but I never knew about it until I upgraded the firmware. People have said on articles online that I'm suppose to remove all the accessories (paper trays, duplex unit etc) first before performing the firmware upgrade. I pushed out the firmware upgrade again with the trays and duplex unit removed but it hasn't resolved he issue with tray 3.
Has anyone come across this issue before, if so did they manage to get tray 3 to work again on their printer?
Thanks

I'd try downgrading the firmware, then check whether everything works fine. After that remove all those accessories, then try the upgrade again.

Hi rindi
Thanks for the comment, I've just looked on the HP website and they only seem to offer the current firmware update, I can't seem to find older version of the firmware on the page, i'll see if I can obtain an earlier version from them.

I did see that I must admit but I thought maybe there was a firmware version later than 20120112.04.160.9 that I could download but nothing is on the HP website other than the latest version.
People who have experienced this issue with tray 3 not working after the firmware upgrade have tried installing a known working tray 3 from another P4015X and it works fine but if they take the tray 3 that isn't working and install it on other P4015X printers the tray still won't work, seems like after the firmware upgrade tray 3 gets screwed up.
I've located another P4015X onsite so I'm going to see if it has a tray 3, if it has I'll try swapping out the trays tomorrow morning to see what happens.

Update to this firmware upgrade problem. I took a known working Tray 3 from another P4015X and attached it to the P4015X that I upgraded the firmware on and tray 3 worked fine.
I then took tray 3 that wasn't working since the firmware upgrade and attached it to the other P4015X printer and I get the same issue "Check Paper Path....Paper will be ejected" so like other people have mentioned in articles online it appears that the firmware upgrade screws up tray 3.
Not really sure if anything can be done as the printer is out of warranty but I followed the firmware instructions on the HP website and now I have a non working tray 3 as a result.

This is definitely a buggy firmware that kills trays. In my point of view that is HP's liability and you should insist that they fix it for free, If they don't comply, I'm sure there is a consumer television or similar program in your country which you could inform. Companies don't like such negative publicity, and they could then agree to the free replacement. If that doesn't help either you could go to court.

I agree, I've just called HP to get support. I acknowledged that the printer is out of warranty but given this was down to their firmware I feel that I should get support and if needed, a replacement Tray 3. The HP technical support woman say she feels that it's more down to a mechanical failure of the tray but I argued that it was working fine prior to the firmware update. I mentioned that there are a number of articles online where people faced similar issues when upgrading the P4015X and she said they can't go by what forums mention.
HP now want me to perform a cold reset on the printer with Tray 3 connected and then push out the firmware again. i'll try this shortly and see how it goes.

I forgot to mention that I had tray 3 and the duplex unit installed throughout the whole process.
