I do something very similar using a tool called Beyond Compare. It is about 30 bucks and allows you to sync or mirror folder structures. It is extremely fast on a local segment, and not bad for ftp, too. The basic interface is a gui, but it also has a great scripting ability which I use to send the data to an off site ftp server via a batch file every night. <br />

If you have enabled the ftp on the NAS, then your windows 7 machine can simply pull the data. Otherwise, have the ftp script run on a different computer on the network instead.

The term "Backup" means the methods and processes involved to copy computer data (system data as well as application data) to media other than the ones where the data originally live (disk, tape, optical, cloud). "Restore" in turn means the methods and processes involved in data recovery, i. e., bringing back copied computer data to their original location. Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.

Networking software modules are interfaced with a framework implemented on the machine's operating system that implements the networking functionality of the operating system. The best known frameworks are the TCP/IP model and the OSI model. Systems typically do not use a single protocol to handle a transmission.
