IBM flash storage 840

Hello experts,

kindly, please help me with this small piece of work as I am newbie to IBM

I need to unmount a mount point from existing host ( call it "old" host)  and mount the same LUNs to a  new host ( call it "new" )
Do not worry about VMs on the old  host that I will decomission  as this was used in our lab.

existing devices: IBM flash storage 840 and some VMs running ibm power 7 server. host and storage is connectted via  IBM san switch

my task is to connect new host ( windows 2008  has two HBA adapter)  to   storage via san switch,  and mount existing LUNs from old host to new one.  old host have a Ubuntu VM is running on it  and data is critical on this server.

Could you please step by step explain me what to do and in which order?
All I want to do is introduce mount point to a WIndows OS server.

I noticed my 2 HBAs  on windows Server is not connected to flash storage. What is the command I need to use to activate it on SAN switch? SAN switch is IBM2498.

Are you using iSCSI to connect to the 840?  If not, how is it connected?

fibre chanel Emulex adaptars. two of them installed on my windows server.

I think SAN switch needs to be configured to allow traffic?
Could you please explain me the steps I need to follow ?
Fibre channel is the physical interface and it is often used to connect iSCSI devices.  If the old server is using iSCSI to connect to the 840, you will corrupt the drives if you connect a second server!  You must check the old server to see how it is accessing the 840.  You had also better check what is on the storage volume(s) or you could instantly have death and destruction on your hands (meaning every user on the network crashing).

Thank you for your time,  I can see two Emulex was installed and disabled. All I did was enabling them from device manager of Windows OS 2008.  New host I am reffering was already had connection to storage previously and all I am doing this try to acticate back so I can introduce LUNS from old ubuntu VM to Windows server.

I logged in to  Switch and port was disabled. So I need step by step instrctuions to from Server ---> switch---> storage to enabe it.
Its in chapter 2 of the manual under configuring your switch:

Thanks, Sadly, I saw that link before and one of the worst docs ever!, Does not tell much about commands etc. Unfortuntely I can't use GUI as I think  firmware on switch is old and having some  java security issues...
this is the error on my switch for the particular port that I need help with first I guess?
  12  12   010c00   id    N8       No_Sync     FC  Disabled (Port Throttled)
The Java issues are probably due to an O/S (or Java) newer than XP.  I'll have to look to find a CMD method.

HI Davis,

for correction, my new host has only 1 VM running on it ( windows 2008 r2) and it has 2 emulex HBAa I enabled.

What is the basic behaviour of the SAN switch? do we need to create alis and zones etc. ?

what is the command I need to use to understand what it is configured and what I need to configure?

It a simple connection from one one host to storage via SAN switch.

my new host has only one VM running on it ( Windows 2008 r2)  since it is one VM has 2 HBAs installed, can I not directly connect VM to storage via fiber?  IF yes,  could you please explain the steps ?  thanks.
