automatic repair loop
My 2012R2 VM, in Hyper V is caught in an automatic repair loop. I have tried repairing the boot sector to no avail. What should I try next?

Just making sure. You tried exactly that as described? Not the automated repair?
If so you could try in the System Recovery Options dialog box, to click Command Prompt again, and type sfc /scannow, then press ENTER, to see if this fixes anything. Another command available if that fails is Bootrec /RebuildBcd
If not I would recommend contacting Microsoft with your Partner ID for assistance, as you could try a dozen of solutions without getting anywhere.

Yes i followed those directions precisely. I also performed a bootrec.exe /scanos and the installation was not recognized

I contacted Microsoft and the problem was resolved
Good to hear they resolved the issue. Did they specify cause/fix out of interest?
ASKER
No they did not. The tech i had on the line was hard to understand. Ultimately we copied the Windows\system32\winlogon file from a working 2012r2 installation and that fixed the issue.
