SBS 2011 Exchange Backup

Hey Guys,

I have a server with SBS 2011 and Exchange on there. I am just using windows backup to an external hard drive. Will that do the trick? Should i get something like a NAS instead?

Has anyone restored a server from an external?

Thanks for the link. We've had a drive go bad once  already. Would a raid 1 NAS be better??
Raid 1 should be fine i don't see any issue with that as you will get redundancy there.

Also just to add to NAS you might need the iSCSI for NAS to take backup of your SBS, once you have installed on your SBS box you should be all good to use the NAS for SBS backup.

Just adding couple of Links for your refrence.

Usual practice would be to have multiple drives. I would usually recommend at least 3. A nominated user brings a drive in from home each day and swaps it over. Thus, one drive is always off site. A 4Tb USB drive costs around $200. If one fails, you still have 2 copies, and can easily buy a replacement from any computer shop.

Ok so no benefit of a Nas. Just get multiple drivea
Yes multiple drives are the way to go. Take them off site as suggested.

If you get a NAS it doesn't give you an offsite backup.  I.e. if there is a fire you're buggered.
