windows 2003 Domain Controller Upgrade
Hi,
I have a 2003 domain controller and I would like to upgrade this server to Window 2012 R2. I still have a few Windows XP machines, they are getting phased out.
I need to use the existing IP address for the new 2012 R2 domain controller because this IP is used in a lot of places. I do not have to keep the current name of 2003 server.
What is the best way to accomplish this task?
This is my thought process:
1) Raise the Forest Functional level to 2003 if this is not already done.
2) Create new Windows 2012 R2 server/install Windows Update/Anti-virus software etc.
3) Join the new server to the existing domain
4) Install the AD/DNS/DHCP Roles
5) Promote the new Windows 2012 R2 Server to be a domain controller
6) Configure DNS/DHCP Roles
7) Change the IP address on the current 2003 domain controller and give this IP address to the new Windows 2012 R2 domain controller
8) Shutdown the 2003 domain controller for a few days to make sure things are pointing to the new 2012 R2 Server.
9) Demote the Windows 2003 domain controller after I verify that all is well.
10) De-commissioned the old 2003 Windows server at this point.
Did I miss anything or is there a better way to accomplish this task?
Thanks
