thanks, switch is currently not in use ( used in lab) had some connections to 2 other server which are decom'ed.  so image switch is blank! althought had some alias created.
I just need commands please to run on the switch? . can the  switch not be  used without zoning, alias etc..?

I preferly create alias first then zones etc and follow normal process ideally. Also Can I connect my server direclty to host without switch? is this an option?

Please provide steps in details. much appriciated. thanks

The switch can run without zone, but it is not recommended, but if you really want just delete all zone that may have exist and run the commend "defzone --allaccess".

Sorry but I don't understand you ? What you mean with connect server to host ? Switch SAN is used to connect servers (or hosts) to storage array or tapes.

apologies, I meant to say my host to storage device directly without switch? I want to know this for a knowledge. I wont be using this option.
OK, anyway the answer is: it depends. Depends if your storage array supports this topology. Some storage arrays require you connect them to a switch. But, let me know the vendor and model and I can try check if it supports, or since this is a lab, just give a try and see if it works.

thank you. it is IBM flash storage 840.

my host ( server 2008 r2) is connected to SAN witch on port 12 which is shown as
12  12   010c00   id    N8       No_Sync     FC  Disabled (Port Throttled)

I enabled this port but  it still shows as
  12  12   010c00   id    N8       No_Sync     FC  Disabled (Port Throttled)

I have not configired Emulex HBAs on my host as I can't see them  from storage explorer mmc? however 2 of them looks ok in the device manager?   I should first may be try to set  my host?
