Barracuda Email Security Service Outbound Filtering

Here's the scenario, we need to be able to filter outbound content, for SS#, CC# and if attachments do not go out encrypted. Here comes Barracuda Email Security Service, easy to use, easy to setup. However we are using rackspace hosted exchange and pop3 accounts which does not allow us to add the outbound server ip or ip's with an error that it can't accept those becuase it's a shared environment . So is there anyone out there that knows of a working solution, hosting provider or alternative to Barracuda that can accommodate these functions? I have spoken to appriver.com, no...networksolutions, no... rackspace, no.... Please ask any questions if I'm unclear at all or missing something. Thank you

Have you spoken to Barracuda about this?

Here is your problem (as I see it):

Many people consider email to be a single, monolithic application & protocol suite.... it is NOT!
 - Inbound message delivery (typically IMAP or POP) and outbound message delivery (nearly always SMTP, albeit on different ports) are separate and distinct animals!
 - That is, unless you're Microsoft and Outlook connecting to Exchange.... You'll need help from an Exchange expert, but I don't think MS Outlook allows for differentiating SMTP and POP/IMAP servers: they all have to go through the "one" Exchange service (which may be more than one physical server).

So, in a non-Exchange environment, I would just setup a different port (not 587, not 465, and DEFINITELY not 25) to process your domain's outbound message traffic, and forward those messages to your ESS server (as provided by Barracuda).

But again, that idea is possibly outside the capabilities of Outlook clients when using Exchange.

Either way, contact the support people at Barrcuda -- it's their product/service & they should be able to help you integrate it into your current environment!

Just a possibility -- and I see this often -- it started working because the DNS changes you ALREADY made weren't being seen because DNS caches values for the TTL value of each entry (or the SOA value if no other value is returned).

So, you could have made DNS changes on Monday, with a TTL value of 1 Day, and Barracuda didn't see it until Tuesday because the OLD value hadn't expired out of cache.

Just a thought
