RDP Servers: replacing a printer
Hi,
General question. RDP session host running on Windows 2008 or newer. I am using local printers connected via TCP/IP standard ports. They are named something specific. Our application is dependent on these printer names. It acts up if they cease to exist, even if they are re-created under the same name.
Every once in a while a printer needs to be replaced by a newer model with a different driver. Paper handling often changes according to the manufacturer. It is necessary to set new default values. I install a new driver and assign it to the existing printer object, then change settings as needed.
According to my observation, a change in the printer settings default values is only used when the user profile is newly created or if the printer was never touched before. If the user has used that printer before, the printer object retains whatever configuration survived the driver change, even if that is useless.
What can I do to forcefully reset all printer options using the newly defined default values?
Thanks,
Ralph
