Switchport Uptime and Ports not used for a while
Hello Experts
We have Cisco Catalyst Switches such 26960X,3560X,3750 and 6500 in our network
I want to know the ports that are down for a long time or how long the port has been up. For example I should be able to tell anyone that port is up since 4/2/2016 12:23:23 PM
We have a kiwi syslog server but it doesn't tell this information very quickly if I want to know for more than 30-40 switches
I will appreciate any suggestions and help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi craigbeck
Thank you for sharing.
It seems porttracker is an appliance
Is there any other cost effective solution ?
Thanks

Hi There,
Use cacti to monitor your network devices.
Its free.
You would have to do a bit of ground work on the installation part.
Once done its an excellent tool to meet your requirements.

I installed cacti and but this not that I am looking for.
You can try splunk or greylog as syslog collector
if you want a lower cost alternative to PortTracker, then you could look at http://www.switchportmapper.com it doesn't fit exactly what you are after, but might be closer than just checking syslogs...
https://www.manageengine.com/network-monitoring/switch-monitoring.html can certainly alert on port down, not sure if it can also alert on port up
The other alternative is opennms...

Hi author,
The mail notification option in cacti could definitely intimate as in when the port wen down and came UP.

Thank guys for the suggestions
We have PRTG I don't know if this can help.

PRTG can report on switch usage, but I'm not sure if it can give you port uptime or downtime.
I would suggest that you pointed PRTG at one of your switches and had a go.

PRTG just provide the SNMP traffic sensor, it doesn't give any report port up/down.
in which case I would suggest looking at opennms
