IP address incorrect

I allowed the Windows 10 update.  When I did, the LAN is no longer recognized.  It keeps saying the ip address is incorrect.  I check to make sure the  options said automatic IP generation.  I tried to disable, enable the LAN.  I deleted it, reinstalled it, and then even uninstalled Win 10, i.e. reverted back to 7.  No go.  Still can't get that PC onto the internet.  It is hard-wired and not wireless.  Reset the modem, etc.  It says it recognizes an unidentified network, a public network.

This is because of the security features of the OS which prevent connection to a Public Network. Here is a link to a solution to change the type of network and enable connection to the LAN...

Good Luck!

Even if it is set up as a Public network, you should be able to get to the internet.
I'd suggest the following tests:
start
run
ipconfig
ping <put in the default gateway address from the line above>
ping 4.2.2.2
ping google.com

If you post the results of this, it may point us to a solution.
I would go to the computer manufacturer's web site and download the latest NIC drivers. Then open a command prompt and do a:

ipconfig /release <enter>

ipconfig /renew <enter>

See if either report back an error

The first one worked fine.  Thanks!  I didn't have to go into the rest of them.  Thanks again.
