One of my friend's has a problem. Her Medicare D insurance company has tripled the co-pay for one of her prescriptions. Do you have any experience with Canadian pharmacies? Has anyone you know got any recommendations?

I believe that it is illegal to import prescription drugs into the US.

On the subsequent question rather than the main question:  From the FDA Website:  "In most circumstances, it is illegal for individuals to import drugs into the United States for personal use."  There is more to that answer in the link.

Per the link posted by Rich Weissler, the FDA:

does not object to personal imports of drugs that FDA has not approved under certain circumstances, including the following situation:

The individual importing the drug verifies in writing that it is for his or her own use, and provides contact information for the doctor providing treatment

As for which Canadian pharmacies are legit, I wouldn't take any one persons advice on this, due to worst-case consequences. Instead, I'd start by educating yourself and then making decisions based on your learnings here:

@Lucas Bishop  Yeah, I didn't quote that part because the friend already has a prescription in the US, so I assume it is a drug which the FDA has approved.  :-)

Might have an easier time working thru the system to request that the copay be lowered.

thanks for all the info guys , this is going to help a number of elderly people who dont have the skill to research this them selves but are forced to look at other means to get their meds due to high cost.

I now have a lot of info here on how to "vet' the pharmacies and not get ripped off

I will leave this open for a bit for additional comments

thanks

If you do plan to deal with a supposed canadian pharmacy verify their website.  See at https://www.cipa.com/ "Canadian International Pharmacy Association".  Don't use a pharmacy unless it is licensed in Canada.

I came across this more-or-less by accident and I realize I'm late to the conversation, but here are my two cents anyway.  "Canadian Pharmacy" is a dog-whistle for "illegal fake drug scam."  Explanation here.  I doubly second the suggestion to use CIPA member pharmacies ONLY, and do your own independent internet search before ordering.
